These two little cuties ran with me for my first long run (I'm just starting to train for my first half marathon). The older one lagged behind for a lot of the run, but the little one kept up the whole time. I think that speaks volumes to my slow slow running, but, in my defense, village children were born to run...even if they are only 4 or 5 years old!
Here are some kiddos I picked up on the last 5 minutes of my run. They are practicing their stretches!
Walking home after a really fun day out on the Damara homestead! I think this was one of my best nam (and american) days!
The learner whose house we are at wakes up at 4:30 am to start the fire, milk the goat and make tea and porridge (traditional white fluffy african food made out of a ground maize) all before making the half hour walk to school where he gets straight A's (he studies by candle light at night). I always feel lazy whenever I hear about his busy day!
Porridge and fish-Yum!
Some boys playing soccer w/a deflated ball :)
Jessica and i riding a donkey. I was really scared! There is a funny video of us as well.
Stirring porridge
We are waiting for the porridge to cook-Yum :)
This is the traditional house we are taking videos at. The home is made out of cow dung and clay.
Making our videos for the americans!
And to think, Coll and I both used to really really hate cats. Now we have 2 and each plan on bringing one home to America with us.
The girls presentation on peer pressure for the hostel girls. On monday they will do another presentation for the girls who stay outside of the hostel.
This is my register class celebrating no one teaching.
This one is for the farewell party for tate p (our principal). Here are two learners showing off the head!
If you can't beat them, join them! I've learned that fridays usually don't exist at da-palm, but today seems to really not exist. No one is in the classes and everyone is just having fun. So instead of worrying about not being able to teach my lesson and assign weekend hw, i decided to have fun w/the kiddos. A day well spent if you ask me :)
Since the principal is leaving today, we are not teaching and the learners are just singing outside and celebrating. Here are some of my grade 10s singing.
Our choir saying good bye to our principal at our morning assembly.
