Exactly two months from today (October 29th) I will set off for Namibia. And, it was almost one month ago today that I got my invitation to serve as a secondary English teacher in Namibia! I am so excited! I plan on keeping this blog to keep everyone over here in the States up to date on my fabulous (or hopefully fabulous!) life on the other side of the world. Actually, no one has this blog site yet, so I am kind of writing to myself right now! But eventually, I might have a few people reading this (or at least one--my mom!).
Right now, I am just kind of getting ready to leave. I am working about 40 hours a week in the HR department at Vera Bradley, laking on the weekends, visiting friends and family I may not see for two years :( and trying to study for the dumb LSATs (that is actually what I got on the computer to do, but of course, I ended up getting distracted and am now writing this post rather than studying!). In other words, I am staying busy! I think I am going to start making a list of what needs to get done before I leave and what some kind of packing list (really though, how do you pack for over two years in under 80 pounds?!?!).
Just to give you a brief crash course in "what/where is this strange place the most amazing person I know (that would be me) is going to be living for two years", Namibia is, most importantly, the birthplace of Shiloh, the love child of Bradgelina! It is pronounced Nah-mih-bee-ah (I don't know why...but its kind of hard to pronounce). It is located right above South Africa on the West coast of Africa. They speak many different languages there (I hear there are a couple of clicking languages), but English is the national language, although it is not anyone's first language. They eat goat head and feet. Their Masses are 2-6 hours (they have Catholics!)and if you want to go anywhere, you hitch hike! If you want to know more, you can go to the Wiki Peace Corps Namibia site http://www.peacecorpswiki.com/index.php?title=Namibia It will give you a lot of information about what Peace Corps does in Namibia.
Well, I am going to go to bed and dream of quilted Vera Bradley bags and scheduling thousands of interviews, until I get to live my dream in the morning.
